Eid Celebration

Meet the family of the beautiful Cheema sisters. The girls celebrated the last day of fasting for Ramadan on Sunday. Ramadan is the Islamic month of fasting, in which Muslims refrain from eating or drinking from dawn until sunset. "Eid ul-Fitr," the name of this ninth month, means the Festival of Breaking the Fast. I stopped by to take a family picture because they had loved ones in town from all over the United States. Much of the older generations in the family spoke "Urdu" -- the national language of Pakistan. I LOVED being around this dynamic family and learning more about the culture that they embrace and value.

Kara

Meet Kara. I have never met anyone who could laugh out loud for one picture and then pull on the perfect mix of sensual seriousness for the next -- a photographer's dream, this one! We had such a fun day, complete with firsts for me. With Kara, I shot my first "action" portraits as she was swinging in the park. I also tread lightly through a maze of gargantuan sunflowers. Kara, you are the only senior to accompany me to that bright, bumblebee-ridden field. To top off this girl's dynamic personality that is positively contagious, she is sweet and PATIENT to boot -- I've taken my allotted number of weeks to edit her proofs and then some because I mistakenly overbooked myself for the summer. The busy wedding season has finally slowed, and I am having a fabulous time reliving my day with Kara as I go through edits of her pictures. You are beautiful, Darling!

Emma

Meet Emma, my sweet, beautiful cousin. We lucked out with a gorgeous day in Muskegon/Grand Haven. I took her older brother's senior portraits there last summer, and we had fun finding new places while matching some of Riley's spots. Emma spent some time this past summer in Nicaragua, doing some really awesome things for the people down there. She has a a beautiful heart, and doesn't even realize how beautiful she is on the outside, too.

Shelby

This is the lovely Shelby. I don't know that I have ever laughed more than I did with this hippie-chic young woman! Shelby is a gem, and her warm heart and feisty personality are going to carry her to places she doesn't even believe in yet.

Note: A good chunk of our shoot was spent following around a pigeon with a broken wing. We called 911 to get the numbers for someone who could come pick it up and take it... to the animal hospital? Who should we have called? It was the saddest thing and Shelby insisted we call SOMEONE to help it.
"Heart of a lion, that one." :)

Amber & Tom: I do

My sweet, graceful cousin, Amber,
married her sweetheart, Tom, last Sunday.
She was the most beautiful bride I had ever seen.
More to come...

Veronika: my other little sis

This is my Vero. We've been buddies for about five years.
She is charming and hilarious.
She loves to read like I do, and she is my favorite photo assistant.
Veronika, I hope you believe me when I tell you that you are beautiful.

Love you, V.

PVK Staff at Spring Arbor University

My good friend, Carrie -- Miss Lovely in the yellow -- asked me to take a few pictures of the Post Village K-house staff at Spring Arbor University. These are the beauties that take care of the female students living in the Villages to make sure they are supported and settling into their first year (and beyond) of college. Aren't they cute with their bright shirts?

The girls endured injuries (unknowingly jumping barefoot onto a sea of fallen acorns) for this one -- I promised them it would be worth it!

Good luck this year, Ladies!
The girls lucky enough to live in your halls are going to have a blast!

Possible Logo?

I am mustering all the tech-savvy I possess to come up with a watermark (the logo that I imprint onto all of my proofs that are posted on the web). Any suggestions? :)

Cortez Brothers

Two summers ago I interned at a bilingual production company, The Cortez Brothers, in Los Angeles, CA. They do a FANTASTIC job of connecting bilingual, bicultural Latin talent with work in the U.S. entertainment market and pairing general market talent with Latin America and Spain. In July, I returned for a visit and took some shots of the sponsor products at one of their promotional parties in Hollywood. My cousin, BB, outfitted me in native Cuban dress and let me loose to mingle with a roomful of interesting people.

Sarah

Meet Sarah -- isn't she beautiful! There are few things I love more than checking out new settings for portraits. Sarah and her mom suggested a great spot that included rustic brick buildings with knotty doors, broken windows, and the potential for more than a few ghosts. We were nervously cracking up as we rushed to take pictures before a bony skeleton hand could reach out from under one of the gnarly doors to grab us! Thanks for a fun day, Sweet Sarah!

Jacob... just a peek!

Taking Jacob's portraits was ridiculously fun --
I clambered around Grandpa's combine, skipped over hay bales, and trekked through the woods.
Thanks for being a great sport, Jacob! The girls are going to go crazy over that smile!
(Note to all the ladies: he's taken!)

Stay tuned for the rest!

Carly & Joe... just a peek!

Are you kidding me with this smokin' hot couple???
This whole wedding just made me say, "WOAH."
all. day. long.
Can't wait to show you the rest!

Jenn & Matt... just a peek!

You might think that these two are paid models
because of how sassy-cute
their engagement proofs turned out!

I could not choose just one favorite from this session!
More to come very soon!
